Parents and citizens (P&C)

Welcome to the Bomaderry High School (BHS) parents and citizens (P&C) section, we are so glad you have made your way here!

Bomaderry High School is fortunate enough to have a supportive and enthusiastic group of parents/carers/teachers who meet throughout the year to share ideas, listen to school updates from our Principal, communicate directly with students(SRC) and teachers, plan events and allocate funds to support and enrich our school community. Meetings are fun and inclusive allowing parents to connect with their child’s education first hand.

All parents are welcome to come along to the P&C Meetings held every second Thursday of the school term months, from 6.30pm held at the Bomaderry High School.

Whether you are an interested parent/carer wanting to participate in the school P&C, or you are just wanting to take a peek at what goes on at a meeting…all parents are encouraged to come along to share a cuppa/treat and meet your child’s school community. Help create your child’s future!

“The best way to predict your future is to create it.”– Abraham Lincoln

So what is BHS P&C?

We are a friendly, fun and productive group that works in partnership with school to make sure our students are supported and inspired as much as we possibly can.

What does that mean? What do we do?

We play an active role in the school community: running a healthy canteen, with all profits going straight back into school; providing parent/carer voices to decision making; and funding a wide variety of ‘extras’ that otherwise wouldn’t be able to run.

Why bother?

Meetings, believe it or not, are actually fun! Also we learn a lot about what is happening at school and we get to make a real difference to the school too. The best kept secret, although you may have been told otherwise, high school students really do like it when parents/carers show an interest in their school.

How?

  • Meetings: 6.30pm on every second Thursday of the month during term time. Meetings are held at the Bomaderry Bowling Club.
  • Visitors and new members are always welcome! Please drop in and stay for as long as suits. We understand how busy parents/carers are. We promise you won’t be made to do anything you are uncomfortable with.
  • e-Network: If coming to meetings isn’t possible, or isn’t your thing but you would still like to hear about what we are doing, please click on the Sign-up to the e-Network.

What else?

There are other ways of helping out too;

  • Canteen volunteers are desperately needed. You don’t need experience, there’s a whole range of different tasks on offer (washing up, stacking fridges or cupboards, washing tea towels, food prep – as little or as much as you like).
  • Canteen lunches; the simplest way to fund raise – make sure your kids buy food from the canteen – remember all profits go straight back into BHS.
  • Events; we often need an extra pair of hands to help with events eg Naplan breakfast, Yr 7 welcome breakfast.
  • Working Bees; come along to help spruce up our kids learning environments.
  • Fundraising; we are always keen to get more money for our school and are very keen for help.
  • Suggestions: We are always keen to hear your comments, suggestions and ideas. Please forward Comments/suggestions to bomaderryhighschoolpandc@gmail.com

Meet our P&C Volunteers

Brent McKean - P&C President

Brent McKean

I am the father of two kids, my daughter who currently attends Bomaderry High School and my son who will be joining her in 2025. I am passionate about our public schools and know the importance of volunteering in the community. I have happily taken on the role of P&C President and I am looking forward to making a positive contribution for the high school. I can be found at Bunning sausage sizzles and pretending to a be a barista inside the P&C coffee cart on the odd occasion. I encourage all parents to join the school P&C to help make Bomaderry High School the best it can be. I look forward to meeting new members at the next P&C meeting.

Racquel Remnant – Vice President

Greetings Bomaderry High School Community!

I am Racquel Remnant, pleased to serve as your Vice President of the Parents and Citizens (P&C) Committee for 2025. My journey with Bomaderry High School began over a decade ago, my son graduated in 2016, followed by my eldest daughter in 2018.

Joining the P&C in 2023 has been an enjoyable experience. I have been actively involved in various fundraising initiatives, from making coffees and supporting our beloved coffee van to serving the famous sausage sandwiches at the Bunnings BBQ for Father's Day.

Looking to the year ahead, I am excited about the opportunities for us all to engage in our children's education. By fostering strong relationships between parents, teachers, and the wider school community, we can collectively uphold Bomaderry High School's commitment to excellence.

I warmly invite you to join us on this journey. Together, let's make 2025 a year filled with positive impact and meaningful connections at Bomaderry High School.

Charlotte Prinsloo – Secretary

I’ve been a member of the P&C since my son started Year 7 at BHS in 2022. I have a daughter who started at BHS in 2024.

I’ve enjoyed the experience of camaraderie and getting to know some wonderful, dedicated people. Also, I appear to like paperwork as I now have plenty of it. I plan to continue to be a part of the P&C for the years to come.

I joined to keep up with what is happening at the school and to understand how the Australian education system works because my high school days were all in South Africa and 30 years ago! My children are teens and largely live their own lives, so this is one way of staying connected with the important things happening in their lives. Life is busy with work and home, and trying to have a social life, but being part of the P&C adds another dimension to life and with it, another way to enjoy it and stay connected to the community as well.

Melanie Lay - Executive Member

I joined the P&C in 2022 with the aim of learning more about what is happening in and around the school (teenagers are not great at sharing that kind of info!) and helping out where I can. I have found the P&C is a great place to connect with other parents and the school in a friendly, welcoming and casual space.

I have a son in the Navy, a son in year 11, a daughter in year 10 and another daughter in primary school. I spent the best part of 15 years working for the Commonwealth Bank, I have a Diploma in Project Management and am a second year Medical and Health Sciences student at UOW. I look forward to a long involvement with BHS and the P&C.
