Curriculum and Programs

The Careers Education Program at Bomaderry High School is designed to provide students with comprehensive support and resources to explore and prepare for their post-school pathways.

Work experience is available to students aged over 15 from year 9-12. The purpose of work experience is to provide students with the opportunity to gain firsthand exposure to a professional work environment, allowing them to develop practical skills, explore career options, and understand workplace expectations. Work experience also helps students build confidence, adaptability, and a better understanding of their own strengths and interests, ultimately assisting them in making informed decisions about their future career pathways.

School based apprenticeships/traineeships can be undertaken by students in year 10-12. School-based traineeships and apprenticeships are vocational education programs that allow high school students to combine traditional classroom learning with structured workplace training. These programs enable students to gain practical skills and experience in a specific industry while completing their secondary education.

Externally delivered vocational education and training is available for students in year 10-12. A wide range of vocational education and training courses designed to equip students with practical skills and knowledge for specific industries are available. EVET courses cover diverse fields such as hospitality, construction, healthcare, business, information technology, aeroskills, outdoor recreation and more.

BHS is an Educational Pathways Program school. The Educational Pathways Program is designed to provide students with a structured and supportive framework for navigating their educational journey. This program offers tailored guidance and resources to help students explore various academic and vocational pathways, make informed decisions about their educational and career goals, and access the necessary support to achieve success. The program aims to empower students to pursue their interests and strengths, whether through university, vocational education and training (VET), apprenticeships, or other post-school options, and to equip them with the skills and knowledge required for their chosen pathways.

BHS engages with The Regional Industry Education Partnership Program (RIEP), which aims to foster collaboration between local industries and educational institutions in regional areas. Through this program, schools and vocational education providers partner with regional businesses and industries to create meaningful learning experiences for students. The RIEP facilitates industry-relevant curriculum development, work placements, and mentorship opportunities, ensuring that students gain practical skills and insights aligned with regional workforce needs. By forging strong partnerships, the program helps students develop a deep understanding of local industries and fosters pathways to employment within their regional communities.

BHS is the regional base of the Pathways Engagement Officer, who plays a key role in facilitating collaboration between educational institutions, industry stakeholders, and community partners to support the implementation of effective pathways strategies for students. This role involves engaging with various stakeholders to develop and promote pathways programs, creating opportunities for work-integrated learning, and fostering partnerships that enhance students' access to diverse career pathways. The Pathways Strategy Engagement Officer also works to align education and training programs with industry needs, ultimately contributing to the successful transition of students into the workforce or further education.

Student Support

The BHS careers education program supports students by offering personalised guidance tailored to individual student needs. Students engage in workshops and events that expose them to different career options and provide networking opportunities. The programs integrate career education into the curriculum, collaborate with industry partners to offer real-world experiences, and engage parents and the community in the career development process, supporting students to understand why they are engaged in school and where the knowledge/skills they develop can lead. This comprehensive approach ensures that students receive multifaceted support as they explore and prepare for their future pathways.
