The HSIE (Human Society and Its Environment) faculty at our school is dedicated to fostering an understanding of the interconnectedness of human societies, the environment, and the world in which we live. Through engaging and thought-provoking lessons, our faculty aims to develop students' critical thinking skills, global awareness, and a deep appreciation for the complex issues shaping our society today. With a focus on history, geography and civics, the HSIE faculty provides a rich and diverse learning experience that encourages students to become informed, active, and responsible citizens of the world. Faculty overview

The HSIE faculty plays a crucial role in our school community by providing students with a comprehensive understanding of the world around them and the societies that shape it. The faculty takes a holistic approach to learning, ensuring that students gain a well-rounded understanding of the human experience and its environment. Curriculum and programs

In HSIE, the following subjects are mandatory for years 7-10:

  • Geography
  • History.

Through these courses Students learn specific historical and geographical concepts and skills in history and geography.

At Bomaderry High School we also offer a large range of elective courses which provide students the opportunity to learn more about people and the societies and environments in which they live. These include:

  • Aboriginal Studies
  • Commerce
  • Elective Geography
  • Elective History
  • International Studies
  • Psychology.

In Year 11 and 12, students can choose from a range of HSIE courses offered at Bomaderry High School. These include:

The Bomaderry High HSIE faculty has passionate and expert teachers who deliver engaging, challenging and innovative programs tailored to the interests of the students.

Students are encouraged to use their knowledge to create understanding of cultural diversity, consider global issues such as environmental sustainability and social justice as well as develop skills in media discernment. We aim to create active, informed global citizens.
